ESSAYINGLY!!!
OK!!! FINALLY ESSAYING ON AERTA!!!! This shit is going to be so incoherent but whateverrrrr I will get it down on that page LIKE A WINNER.
SABRA: her world, it used to be a big fantasy world, with all kinds of things like gods and monster and heroes and super-powers and head monsters and giant shining crystal cities, and amazing dirty steam-punk cities. EVENTUALLY their sun began to die, and the people went underground at the behest of the gods, hoping they could wait out their star's "wrath." Things got worse and worse until thousands of years later we have AMNESIA MURDERCAVE. But Aerta wasn't around for that part! She was there when it was a fantastic beautiful world.
LACERTA was the nation of half-breeds and hippies. They lived mostly in the forest and in the foothill's of the great mountain range, and sometimes on the coast. They were a mix of agrarian and hunter-gathers. The main concepts of their culture are "informality." They had very (very) personal relationships with the local gods. Due to this inter-breeding of humanity and the supernatural world, it was very common in Lacerta for families or individuals to have an inhuman aspect, such as plant, or beast or bird of water or ethereal.
They are also notorious hedonists. Drug use, both ritually and recreationally is highly widespread. Most "festivals" are just orgies, and they believe pretty much all sex is a beautiful thing. (My personal headcanon says that due to genetic dissimilarities, many Lacertans couldn't knock each other up if they WANTED to, hence casual sex not being so very much a concern.)
LACERTAN MAGIC depends basically entirely on one's born techniques. If you are born able to use a magic, hey, awesome! If you're not, then eh, it's not a big deal. You probably have other talents! There was a lot of interactions with smaller gods. For example, your farm needs a bit more water? Head over to your river, bring it some nice booze, let it talk about it's family a lil', and it'll probably help you out. However they do not ask for the intercession of "higher" gods. The Higher gods would have been part of the main pantheon- basically the equivalent of the Olympians. Almost any "Judge" from Sabra would fall into the category of "higher" god.
KOLOTHA is one of the higher gods. In fact she's one of the highest gods. She's the wife of the King of the gods, but that's not even where her power lies. She's the "weaver of fate." So she determines the lifespan of each mortal, and sees that things progress according to the greater patterns of the cosmos blah blah. She does care for mortals, and does give them (particularly heroes) great gifts and wisdom. HOWEVER, when paired with her brother, Corpus the Surgeon, she takes on an added aspect of "perfect balance" in all deals struck.
So while calling on Kolotha or Corpus for magic is not necessarily a bad idea, you should be very, very, very well-learned in the kinds of deals they strike before you do so. For example, a middle-aged mage from a country of scholars who has been studying his whole life? He can probably make it work. A derpy little girl with no concept of magic following any rules? That's a bad, bad plan.
So when Aerta's mother was sick and interceded to her and was like "HEY KOLOTHA HEY KOLOTHA CAN I HAVE MIRACULOUS HEALING POWERS??? I'LL CHANGE MY MOM'S FATE :D PLEASE I'LL BE UR BEST FRIEND :)" the goddess was less than amused.
AERTA'S CURSE: So to start with, she did in fact get basically miraculous healing powers! Little to nothing was beyond her skill. A broken bone was no biggie, most deadly illnesses she had totally in the bag! Except . . . she had no choice about how to use this power. Basically she got blasted in the head by Kolotha's will, and the will of a god is going to be pretty overwhelming to start with, but especially so for a grieving child! Aerta could always feel, instinctively, who was fated to live and who was fated to die. She was willed by Kolotha to stay in her hometown. People would come form all over, hearing of her power, and beg to be saved. Some she was allowed to; many, many she was not allowed to. Aerta was never given the benefit of knowing why she would be made to save some asshole, but a child she had to let die. It all kind of sucked.
So! On the one hand, Aerta became very, very obedient to Kolotha's will. There wasn't much else for her to do! Kolotha whispered "jump" and Aerta already knew exactly how high. It wasn't that her powers just wouldn't work without Kolotha's permission, it that the god's will was just so overwhelming that it wasn't in her to rebel. In fact, the only act of rebellion she ever truly managed was just to hope- for a while- that eventually she would not be Kolotha's tool. Then the guy who made her hope that got burned to death in the sun so that was rad. She got pretty used to not being the one who makes the choices in her life. She also got used to having an external force to hide behind as a justification of what happens and what she does about it. From Aerta's perspective it really was all pretty much "well that's just the way it is, there's not much to be done about it."
She also became a really, really good greif counselor.
OK SO HERE'S THE OTHER HAND: Aerta's life was not by any stretch all sadness and bleakness. Yeah, from her perspective free will was an illusion, and one she was not even afforded the comfort of. Yeah, a lot of people came to her asking for help and she had to let them die. Yeah, there were even some people she was allowed to help that she didn't know how to. (Razzy and Buttercup.) But! BUT!!! Her life really wasn't all that bad. The choices Aerta could make she took full advantage of. She decided for herself very solidly that she was still going to enjoy her life, no matter how heavy her Kolotha shit got. She was going to flirt with (and sleep with) as many cute boys as she damn well could. She was going to sample every drug she had time for. She trolled the atheists, the asexual, dream-harassed her brother. So the hand she was dealt didn't have a lot of lulz? She made her own.
SO NOW SHE'S IN THUSIA and basically her first instict is "WHY WOULD YOU UNDEAD ME 8( 8(" and hearing that her planet is dead, she is on a new one, the feeling of "Y U DO THIS" only continues! She loved her world, and her friends, and her family. If the gods of Thusia had asked her permission, she would have politely declined the invitation to exist. But she is very, very conditioned to be the gods' bitch. And so being called here, and she has to fight in a war she doesn't particularly want to, well, that's not so totally unexpected for the kind of shit that has happened to her!
Kinda aside note here, in specific to the man-versus-nature theme. While, yeah, she is a dirty hippie that lived in harmony with nature and boom-de-yada, she doesn't really have anything like the modern concept of "man-made calamity is fucking up nature" like we do. She gets along well with people from more developed nations, even ones that have subjugated nature. Lacertans avery very, very much against picking sides. They are also totally honest about how brutal nature is. Frankly, from her perspective if bears could build cities and kick people out of them they probably would! And the disaster that destroyed her world was 100% natural. There was nothing humanity did to cause it, and nothing the could have done to stop it. So when she sees plants and nature having destroyed humanity, "maybe humanity deserved it," really isn't a thought that comes up.
If she were really, really pushed on her thoughts on the war, they would probably come down to "humanity already lost. Why are the gods still fighting?" but she can't really bring herself to out-right question the gods, at least not yet. She's just been simply too conditioned to obeying them. When Dellen was saying to her "those trees out there aren't your trees, this world isn't your world," there was a little part of her that wanted to be like "y-yeah well UR NOT MY REALMOM GOD" but nope, her feet aren't under her enough to get to that.
AND THAT'S REALLY, BASICALLY, WHERE SHE IS RIGHT NOW. She doesn't particularly WANT to be alive, but she is. She had some very firm concepts of what death was like, but that was all sort of dependent on HER WORLD NOT BURNING UP IN A SUPER NOVA. So even though she was someone who was very comfortable of death, she's now uncertain and scared of what that means for herself and for all the people of Sabra left behind.
And then all her gods are here! AND THEY ARE MOE AND SAD!?!? Or they are irreverent and happy that the world is dead.
Basically everything is confusing and terrible. It's been a good week or two since she got here and she really barely has it put in order which end is up. So she's compensating by sticking to things that are familiar and she knows how to deal with. Aella has been boosted from "good friend" to "MY FAVORITE FUCKING PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE" she's turned up the flirting and derping. She's tripping a lot of balls. She's spending a lot of time comforting people on loss. These are the things she knows how to do! Even taking a task from Leedin to do some weaving. She's not particularly GOOD at weaving, but she knows how to do it, and doing something for the will of a weaver-goddess is less confusing than not. Sooooo. Yup.
Probably to get her feet further under her, she may start poking people about all the infinite sad they are carrying. SHE KINDA WANTS TO START POKING ALL HER DUMB LITTLE HEROES because derp your whole team sure did get wiped out. :(
OH OH AND ANOTHER THING idk where to put this. But when she went to talk to Del she was basically expecting to hear "WHELP THIS IS THE SITUATION YOU ARE IN RIGHT NOW THIS IS YOUR DESTINY DEAL WITH IT" I mean the fact that the higher gods were even THERE and you can TALK TO THEM was kind of exciting for her. '-'
Except then Del was like "this is probably hard :( I'm sorry :(" Also Dellen was like "YOU HAVE TO MAKE CHOICE" and also "YOU SHOULD HAVE HOPE."
And Aerta doesn't have any idea wtf she is supposed to do with choice and hope. So she's just. Ignoring that.
My god that is TL;DR as hell. AND ALSO I HIT 1000 COMMENTS so this is also a question meme that I will actually answer this time. You can re-ask from the last one if you like I won't judge you :|a

also first impressions for Aerta and Breeze WAIT NO I SHOULD FIND MY OLD QUESTION one secondDOES AERTA HAVE SPECIFIC THOUGHTS ON THE SABRA JUDGES BEING MORTALno subject
Her primary thought is "8\!?" and also "8(" and a lil bit of "._."
It's just. It's really hard for her to deal with. Lacertans, while they were LULZ LULZ GODS LULZ her whole existence was pretty defined by the influence of one of the higher gods. To see those from the same pantheon, to see her goddess's son here and derping and mortal gives her a lot of feelings.
She kind of has this weird thing where it's difficult for her to deal with the events of Sabra-the-RP. She snapped at- uuuh, Santa I think, for insulting the Orion yellow color. She is trying to maintain her Lacertan zen but a part of her just wants to run around being the haughtiest bitch like "MY PLANET WAS SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!1!"
But she can't really go up to her gods and tell them they are doing it wrong. So she just kind of derps. And ignores some of them and kind of accidentally hurts herself talking to Messenger. She is sort of not a winner in that regard.
What does "Hydra" mean to Scowl right now?
no subject
BASICALLY the final end result of his development with the team ended up with his concept of it being akin to a mafia famiglia, and he was the boss of it. To him, just because Sabra has ended and he's died, that doesn't mean Hydra is over or even that it can't grow if they come to trust other people enough to adopt them in. He has his sense of pride in the team and in the legacy of the country it was founded for, and that is just not a feeling that's going to go away.
He does separate Hydra the country and Hydra the team a little in his mind, though he's incredibly attached to both. He remembers G's pride in the country and the people. He feels a pride in it as well. They were good, strong people who were often harsh but almost always had a noble or honorable streak that ran deep in them. It was a country to be proud of if you knew it well, and he does feel like Hydra the team was a good representation of that even if it's not really the same at all. Basically, he seems Hydra the team as honoring the memory of the country and is immensely proud of that fact.
Just. Alllll the Hydra dere forever.
What does Aerta think of Scowl?
no subject
Also, she finds herself very, very fond of the terapede, because it's something, anything form home. She'll totally still call it little sister and possibly feed it if she happens to have scraps handy.
Yes OK, do u liek me y/n/lacerta?
no subject
Meanwhile, Aerta herself has been pretty mellow around him aside from the bits of expected discomfort with the planet ending the way he did, and he doesn't fault her for that. :|a She's also managed to not trigger any sense of protectiveness with regard to Excel or other friends of his (something Aella did do), so given what he remembers of her from the past Sabra experience and how easy she's been to talk to now, he likes her well enough and feels pretty sympathetic that her whole world has been destroyed now.
How are she and Allen getting along now? I saw the thread where they got their feelings all over each other and am curious now.
no subject
AS FOR HOW THEY'RE ACTUALLY GETTING ALONG, that I don't know about. I think it depends on how things go from here on out. I think at this point she is more capable than I would have expected of being able to see him as his own person, apart from her brother. She's not quite there yet, but closer than I would have expected! Is she going to want to be his friend and hang out with him a lot? Thaaaaat I don't know about. Too soon to say.
But talking things out with him did make her feel a little better.
SO I HEAR THINGS ARE KINDA CRAPPY BETWEEN EXCEL AND DERA plz confirm/deny/elaborate.
no subject
It's not really something he'll be able to maintain for long since he knows that avoiding her is ALSO not what she wants, so sooner or later he'll try to settle back into normal routine with her and pretend everything is fine, but there's no undoing the guilt he feels over it now. I don't really know where that will go from here yet especially since I think Excel's still figuring out how she wants to handle Excel's end of things. :|a
HOW FAST WILL LADY BECOME A HELLION?
no subject
If it was Good End!Trigger then she'd do it in a heartbeat, fuck shit up and walk on ceilings forever and never look back. But that ain't what I'm apping \o/
I plan on apping her as having gotten out of Sabra alive, but having been the only Pyxis to do so, and then giving possibly up to two years between when Aven drags her back to Alt!Britain, and when she eventually An Heroes to save earth. So she will have had some time to mature and settle the fuck down and also possibly be able to look at herself at a person who can protect important things and people and make a difference, as opposed to how she saw herself in Sabra, which was basically "STABSTABSTABSTABSTAB." Basically, she'll move in a direction something like towards the maturation that happens to her in canon. That all being said at her heart she's still an adrenaline junkie and a punk, and has probably been trying to hold on to her punk side even harder in Pyxis's memory. She may hear the deal and be like "fuck yes awesome :|b"
Buuuuuuut there is also a part of me secretly wants to see if she might hit it off with Dellen, because I think she could do that too, what with how much of her motivation is "PROTECT HUMANITY!!1!" I think she might fit. I AM INTERESTED TO SEE.
How many shit would Dera flip if Excel signed on with Eizon?
no subject
However! Eizon so far does seem to actually have the peoples' best interests in mind, so I don't expect he'll actually go ordering Excel to enforce rules the way Ophiuchus was designed to do (unless they're basic moral rules like don't kill people, don't steal each other's things, etc). So there's a good chance he'll calm down at least somewhat after a little time goes by, it just won't be pretty at first. :'D
Who's the character you've got in queue now and do you have any plans for them at all?
no subject
My plans for her is to be absolutely as crazy as possible at every moment, and maybe to decide that Yamamoto is her boyfriend if Boxy apps.
HOW ABOUT YOUR APP PLANS?
no subject
Right now I am trying to decide between Havoc and Tiedoll because I do enjoy having a mellow older character around to chill with. I need to finish a dgm review before deciding though. :|a I think I'll probably stay at just four then unless some character really screams to be apped for me.
Do you know any mellow older characters that aren't video games that you would pimp at me :|a
no subject
Uuuh, I think you would enjoy the villain-guy from this very weird book called Music of Razors, which is a pretty short read and I would f'ing love to see it RPed from. There's also the old guy from Dogs: Bullets and Carnage. Was he mellow? I feel like he probably was.
Or you can be a cool kid and make your own. :D MAKE IT EXACTLY THE CHARACTER YOU WANT!!1!
Are there any kinds of characters you want MORE of?
no subject
Same question at you!
no subject
Maybe . . . more high fantasy characters? I'm not sure why but I am enjoying how many we have that aren't from "modern earth." I like modern earth to be the minority '-'a
Do you have any sekrit wishes for Thusia or plot or gods-to-be-made or CR?
no subject
I would also secretly enjoy Allen's harem beginning to date each other if such a thing is even possible. :|a
I just remembered once upon a time I wanted to app homestuck but now there seem to be new characters all over the damn place. (I left off around the time John and Rose found their parents so idk what is happening.) PIMP SOMEONE(S?) AT ME :|a

Reverse?
no subject
Any app plans other than the one you have queue'd currently?
no subject
I have a well laid-out plan for Lady being one of the few survivors of Sabra then spending a couple years as part of the Alt!Torchwood (basically protecting humanity from douche aliens and bisexuals.) I'd say she has good 35% odds of being my next character.
I also really really REALLY want to app post-camp Emma Emmerich so that she can sign up with Eizon. While she's a character I want LIKE BURNING I know that she will always be interesting in Thusia, and possibly be even moreso once we have more modern technology so I'm not worried about apping her right away. Odds of being my next app at about 10%
EOWYN!!1! who I think would be HELLA FUN here, and we have a cool Bad End a few of us are poking at. IDK when everyone else would be ready to app so let's put her odds at 15%
Any Girl At All From Fairy Tale, strongest contenders being Erza and Lluvia with Mirajane and Cana. I think Erza would do better in Thusia than Lluvia but I might be a little intimidated to play her because kyaa kyaa Erza-sama .////. Let's put them collectively at about 10%
There is also Lucy Stillman from Assassin's creed. She's not the most interesting or flashy character, but she's solidly interesting. And she's an adult but still a competent fighter and a very strong humanist and frankly one of the few characters who would 150% rather be in Thusia than dead.
M'Gann from the Young Justice cartoons is 150% my type and OBVIOUSLY I FRIGGIN LOVE THE CAST. the problem would be she's a little similar in personality and voice to Aerta, and would also have a lot of the same CR, so she'd have to wait until Aerta is a little more settled and has more strong CR outside of Young Justice. Or alternately have such strong and well-defined YJ CR that I would feel comfortable bouncing both of them thattaway.
Gai-sensei. IDK man I would looooooooooove to play him again because he is my soul douche and Jeva is an ADORBS Kakashi but . . . reading Naruto . . .
Kanaya would also be delightful in Thusia because of her penchant for extreme gardening, but I think getting the very first homestuck troll settled in Thusia would take a lot of effort.
ARE THOSE ALL THE PEOPLE I AM THINKING OF APPING??? they are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head. 8T

HOW DOES WALLY FEEL ABOUT HIS HIPPIESIS??
no subject
THAT ASIDE she (as with the rest of Apt C) is his new... not really team or family, but wally's used to having a good number of People Important To Him around, so having good people he gets along with around him all the time is seriously helping him adjust (and further repress his trauma and angst). On Aerta specifically, he thinks she's sweet, and is genuinely thankful for her help with Dick because gawd they are dumb boys. He's an only child so he doesn't really get sibling bond feelings so much, but he definitely looks to her like he would to an older sister/cousin/thing if he were better at understanding that sort of thing, I guess.
THREE PEOPLE IN THUSIA AERTA WOULD BANG (excluding gods)
no subject
2) Jason Todd
3) Giiiiiinko? Maybe? She does prefer older men, given the option.
Wally can bring in one person form back home. (assuming that they are dead, and he knows that he's not ASKING for them to be dead) Who does he pick and why?
no subject
Other than people, what's the one thing Aerta would most like from home to be available to her in Thusia?
no subject
Wally's favorite non-Dick thing about Thusia, and his least favorite non-death thing about Thusia.
no subject

Now Aella was a GOOD friend, but probably not someone on "family" level. But being in Thusia with her is quickly elevating her there.
Basically Aella is so straight-forward and good for her. It's sort of Aerta's struggle to still enjoy life despite how heavy her crap always was. Aella was always good for that. She had no major tragic weight, she rarely needed to be taken care of (well, except that first time) that she's just a friendship that's solidly light, which is very good for Aerta.
SO YAH LOEV A LOT. Reverse?

In Thusia, Aerta has been climbing PRETTY DAMN QUICKLY from 'good friend' who she'd cut bitches for to… family is probably the word, yeah. It's partially because they've been living in such close quarters, and partially because Aerta is the only truly familiar thing she has left from back home—Aella can't even express what it means to have somebody who'll understand if talks about this or that from Vulpecula, or the way the water tastes in that one stream in Lacerta. Ssssso in short she's definitely become part of Aella's territory/clan/whatever, moreso than anybody else so far. Their friendship is, as you said, still straight-forward and light and fun, because that's what they both like. But now there's just an added layer OKAY BUDDY I GOT YOUR BACK.
… CAN I BE A DICK and ask about her thoughts on AptC overall? And how she feels about living in the… idk how to put it, apartment environment?

Ah, well, so how much does Aerta compare the Thusia pantheon to the Sabra one?
