FUN WITHPLANT ANATOMY

So Aerta is part flora, genetically. How does that work you may ask? Well, when a lady and a tree love each other very much . . .

Really?

Yes. Well no I am sure there is a very long origin myth about the Ferham's line, which someday probably I'll write! But for now I'm just compiling headcanon regarding the ramifications of having not-entirely-human anatomy.

- She eats a little less and drinks a lot more than a normal person! As for caloric intake it's nothing extreme, probably around 80% for food intake and 130% of what you might expect. When she is getting adequate fresh air and direct sunlight (which in Thusia right now she is not :|b) it goes down to around 60% food intake and up to almost 200% water intake. As a result she can last a biiiiit longer than a normal person on a restricted intake of food, and reverse for water. (UNLESS YOU STORE HER IN A COOL, DARK PLACE AND MIST HER A BIT. Yes really.)

- speaking of metabolism, yes she can perform photosynthesis! And no, not just the Pokemon move. Her hair-vines (and thus her stamina for healing!) will increase if she's getting more direct sunlight. Sunlight will also help her restore lost stamina, her own wounds would heal faster and she just generally has more vim.

- She is a little less prone to contracting many human diseases! Not immune, not by any means. But just has a really solid defense against it and natural viral/bacterial infections tend to not hit her as hard.

- HOWEVER fungal infections could fuck her up. Even a minor one can look terrible. Like, leper terrible. As a result she is very cautious around molds, stagnant water, so forth. Not "it will kill me if I touch it" but "that is an unclean thing that I would prefer not to deal with."

- Parasites are also an issue. She has had aphids before and was just inconsolable and in melodramatic freak-out mode the whole time. Everyone who was used to her being a calm, warm caretaker was floored by how quickly she 150% totally just lost her shit. It was basically the worst thing.

- The vine that she is related to (and therefor the vines that she grows) are indeed a potent medical herb! Steeped and packed in wounds they would indeed ward off infection and promote clean healing. Exxxcept this is not even remotely as effective as her using them to fuel her healing powers so why would you???

- Generally her plant parts will regrow if cut off. Her human parts will not, but she is unlikely to have complications from an amputation if one were to be necessary.

- Hey kids, do you know what flowers are really for? Yep, that is a 100% functional reproductive system growing out of her head. If pollinated it can go to seed and she can produce offspring that way. In fact this has happened before! Her offspring produced in such a way are mostly normal plants. While she does consider her seedlings "family" she does not have any stronger feelings for them than she had for any other plants in her care. There's not an English (or, one presumes, Thusian) word for their exact relationship. She has not encountered any genetically compatible plants in Thusia and prays regularly that it will stay that way.

- All that being said she is more in touch with her human sexuality than her plant one! If she was going to have "children" it would be though normal channels, yo. Due to already being on shaky grounds as a cross-breed, it's unlikely she is genetically viable to anyone but another Sabran. (That's sort of a good rule of thumb for most things on this like "her plant anatomy gives her a bonus/penalty to X, but nope, still 90% human rules apply"

- Any part of her anatomy buried in fertile soil will eventually sprout roots and can function as such! Feels good, man. She's been known to let her feet do this, but is always very, very careful to pick the new growth off because truth be told she thinks it's kind of icky. :x yes, yes, she is beautiful as she is and there's nothing wrong with being half plant but noooooo, don't let boyfriends see you spouting roots eww why would you even.

- left to their own devices, the vines from her head would grow from other parts of her body, but she has trained them to be hair-only. There are a couple of suborn spots that will still sprout from time to time.

- though her vines do not have nerve endings and can not "feel" in the way flesh can, it's still distressing for her to have them damaged. Articulating this distress to someone without plant anatomy is difficult, but it's something akin to looking at a wound even after a local analgesic has been applied. It's still like "WHOA HEY NO MAN THAT'S MY BODY."

- Plucking them out to use for healing isn't fun, but it's probably somewhere on the level of minor waxing procedure. "Meh" levels of pain.

WELL THAT WAS LONG AND STUPID AND I OPEN THE FLOOR TO A QUESTION MEME FOR AERTA AND COLUMBINA

Lucky's kinda confused. She'd basically assumed Scowl would say no and he would realize how wrong he is about everything and praise her greatness. But then she ended up +1 couch meguka and it was just like WUT 8U???

She appreciates that Columbina is funny but doesn't particularly care about her much otherwise. She will probably remain Columbina-neutral until she proves herself to be useful. Or maybe until she decides to drag her along for some shenanigans.

Let's have some shenanigans.
